Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long are your lessons?
They are one hour each.
2. What breeds do you work with?
Any breed! (And any age, too!)
3. What are your qualifications?
I graduated from Bergin University of Canine Studies (the only accredited university in the world to offer degrees in cynology, the study of dogs) with an Associate of Science degree in Assistance Animal Education (essentially service dog training). I helped to whelp and train numerous service dogs of all ages, primarily for veterans with PTSD and clients of varying mobility impairments, including quadriplegia. I then worked at Allegan County Animal Shelter before transitioning to Petco, where I served as the Senior Dog Trainer for over three years. I left Petco in May 2018 and have been doing private dog training since. I am also a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
4. What types of behaviors do you work with?
I work with all basic obedience commands, standard behavior concerns like jumping, barking, destructive behavior, digging, etc. I also work with more advanced training including distractions, Canine Good Citizen preparedness, and several types of service dog training. I do not, however, specialize in extreme aggression (such as dogs with a history of severe bites).
5. Would you work with an aggressive dog?
"Aggression" can sometimes be a tricky word to define. If your dog shows some nervousness, discomfort, and reactivity in some settings, we can certainly discuss working on that! If, however, your dog is offensively aggressive to people or other animals, and/or if your dog has a bite history, then there are other trainers who specialize in that. If you're unsure if your dog is reactive or aggressive, feel free to reach out and we can discuss it further.
6. How do you accept payments?
Payments by cash, check, or Venmo are accepted. To pay via credit card or PayPal, a minor processing fee applies.
