Kaitlyn Shamery
I've always had a deep love for dogs, and that passion prompted me to attend Bergin University of Canine Studies, the only accredited university in the world to offer degrees in cynology (the study of dogs). There I had the privilege of learning directly from Bonnie Bergin, the woman who first created the concept of the mobility service dog. My university courses included a wide range of classes related to canine behavior and training, in addition to the 24/7 hands-on practice I had since each student has a service-dog-in-training with them at all times. I graduated in 2014 with an
Associate of Science degree in Assistance Dog Education (in other words, service dog training).
After graduation, I spent a year working at Allegan County Animal Shelter (and continued to volunteer
there after leaving) before accepting a position to become the Senior Dog Trainer at Petco,
where I worked for three years training hundreds of dogs and their owners.
Since leaving Petco, I have created not only this business in private dog training,
but additionally I am the owner/founder of Service Dog Seminars, a venture aiming
to educate businesses and communities about assistance animals.
Fun fact: I once trained my toy poodle to be Toto in a musical performance of The Wizard of Oz!
I am also a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
I currently have two rescue dogs of my own: a 60-pound female hound named Kiara, and a 15-pound Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix named Ellie. My girls absolutely love other dogs!
I have experience from newborn puppies to seniors, from chihuahuas to golden retrievers to pit bulls,
from shelter dogs to therapy dogs to service dogs.
I would love to have the privilege of sharing my knowledge with you and helping to
make life more enjoyable for you and your four-legged friends.
